Youth
Outreach Projects
New Orleans 2009
See photos from our trip below!
The ELCA Youth Gathering offered nearly 37,000 youth and adults
many unbelievable days in New Orleans that will never be forgotten!
The gathering featured activities built around the theme “Jesus, Justice, & Jazz.” - a fitting theme for the location. Each day featured guest speakers,
Bible studies, music, dance, drama, videos, and a time of service to this hurricane ravaged city. Each evening, there was a concert by a great band like Skillet.
Between the times of the mass gatherings each day, we participated in
workshops and fun and fellowship at various centers. All throughout
the week, participants were taken to various sites to prepare schools for classes in the fall or other helpful projects. Our group painted one school.
Our week ended with Sunday morning worship led by the Rev.Mark Hanson,
presiding bishop of the ELCA. His message to the youth was to go beyond their
comfort zones, to serve the world, and to make a difference, he thanked us
for being apart of a community that matters.
Along with all of our baggage and souvenirs we carried home all
the messages that we heard, and shared them with the congregation.
As always, thank you for all of the love, support, and prayers that you
give to the youth at King of Kings.
